Cantiague Park Winter Skating Lessons Registration

Registration for Winter 2009-2010 ice skating classes at the beautiful indoor ice skating rink at Cantiague Park began the week of Nov. 16 and runs through the start of classes the first two weeks of December.

Classes - in several age and skill levels, from “Tots” to “Alpha” and “Freestyle” - run through the first or second weeks of February 2010, depending on the class. The classes are formed with a minimum of four students and a maximum of 10 per class. The program consists of eight half-hour lessons for each age and skill level, with the various classes offered on Mondays between 4 and 5:30 p.m.; Fridays between 4 and 5:30 p.m.; and Saturdays between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuition is $120 for children and adults and skate rentals are available for $5 per rental.

Registration at the Cantiague rink will take place seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will continue until classes are filled. Classes are open only to Nassau County residents, and Leisure Passes are required (those under 13 years of age may use their parent’s Leisure Pass number). Checks can be made payable to “Treasurer of Nassau County.”

Cantiague’s indoor ice skating rink is a magnificent facility that is used by recreational skaters and hockey teams. The rink has also played host to Olympic gold medalists such as Nancy Kerrigan, who performed there in 2004, and was the New York Islanders (National Hockey League) practice facility from 1979 to 1992. Ice skating sessions take place daily, and birthday parties may also be arranged during public sessions. For more information, call 516-571-7056.

Cantiague Park is centrally located in Hicksville, just off the Northern State Parkway and east of the Wantagh State Parkway on West John Street. For more information about Nassau County Parks, call 516-572-0200.
