Jeremy A. Levine, of Plainview has been named to first honors on the Clark University Dean’s List. This selection marks outstanding academic achievement during the Spring 2013 semester.
To be eligible for first honors, students must have a grade point average of 3.8 or higher, of a maximum of 4.3 (all A+s).
More than 2,000 high-achieving students have been named to the Hofstra University Dean’s List for Spring 2013. Students who began their studies before Fall 2012 must earn at least a 3.4 grade point average to qualify. Those who entered the university after Fall 2012 must earn a grade point average of 3.5. Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs Herman A. Berliner congratulates these students on their impressive academic achievement.
The following local students have been named to the Marist College Dean’s List for the spring 2013 semester:
Christine Ryan, Plainview is a member of the Class of 2014 and is majoring in Communication.
Daniel Ventricelli, Woodbury is a member of the Class of 2014 and is majoring in Communication.
Joshua Wurtzel of Plainview graduated first in the 2013 graduating class of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York, NY. Joshua won the prestigious Louis D. Brandeis Award for having the highest GPA in the entire graduating class of 399 students.
The following students were named to the Dean’s List of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., for the 2013 spring semester. Students must be in the top 20 percent of Emory College or have approximately a 3.85 grade point average or higher to be named to the Dean’s List.
The University of Scranton has announced its Dean’s List, which recognizes students for academic excellence during the 2013 spring semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to make the Dean’s List. The list includes students from the Jesuit university’s College of Arts and Sciences, the Kania School of Management, the Panuska College of Professional Studies and the College of Graduate and Continuing Education. More than 1,490 students were named to the 2013 spring semester Dean’s List, including the following area residents.

The Italian and Spanish Honor Societies at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School recently hosted a visit from Dr. Joseph Bacotti, a local eye surgeon affiliated with Lion’s Club International. Dr. Bacotti told the students all about his volunteer work abroad with those in need of eye care, and how his ability to speak three languages empowered him to better serve and understand the cultures in which he was immersed.
The Italian and Spanish Honor Societies collaborated to run a drive to collect eyeglasses for the needy, and were successful in collecting two large boxes full of used eyeglasses. The glasses were donated to Dr. Bacotti to be used towards his volunteer efforts.
The Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) recently honored Lisa Elbogen for her adult volunteer service and lifelong achievements with the Girl Scouts. Lisa received the GSUSA Appreciation Pin, which recognized her service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and her memorable impact in at least one community where Girl Scouting is offered.
In addition to Troop Leadership, Lisa has held two Service Team positions, most recently taking on the role of Association Treasurer. Lisa will continue to serve on this committee as an adult volunteer and use her passion and knowledge of Girl Scouts to benefit the Girl Scouts community.
The ceremony was held at the Hillwood Commons Auditorium at the LIU-Post campus in Brookville.
Several area residents have been named to the Deans’ List for the spring semester at SUNY Oswego. Showing academic achievement, with their class year and major in parentheses, are: Kathryn Weiner of Tad Lane in Old Bethpage (junior, meteorology), Christopher Craddock of Phipps Lane in Plainview (sophomore, economics), Denise Davis of Manor Street in Plainview (senior, sociology), Catherine Koenig of Elmwood Court in Plainview (senior, human resource management), Peter Rukis of South Oyster Bay Road in Plainview (junior, economics) and Jessica Sandler of Beaumont Drive in Plainview (senior, childhood education).
The President’s and Deans’ lists represent the academic top 32.0 percent of the Oswego student body. To be included on the Deans’ List, students must have a semester grade average of 3.30 to 3.79.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School Symphonic Orchestra recently presented their annual springtime performance for the Plainview Senior Citizens Club.
The highly anticipated annual concert took place at the Jamaica Avenue School and consisted of a variety of classical and popular selections. Ms. Renee Ashley, music teacher at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School, organized the event.
