Runners and walkers from Plainview and all over Long Island and beyond are cordially invited to be part of the 7th annual Sands Point Preserve Sprint for the Feinstein Institute, a 5 Kilometer Run/walk to be held on Saturday morning, August 10. The starting horn will sound precisely at 9 a.m.
The event will be staged by the Plainview based Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) under the guidance of GLIRC’s Abe Bernstein The event is made possible through the generosity of Abe Bernstein, Genentech (“In Business for Life.”), and the Lynbrook Runner’s Stop.
The Sands Point Preserve, located at the tip of the Port Washington peninsula, is one of the most beautiful spots on Long Island. The 5 Kilometer course features a unique combination of paved paths and runner friendly woodland trails (and a surprise or two!) - with an incredible view of Long Island Sound at the finish line. If you’ve been there before, you know what we’re talking about. If you’ve never been to Sands Point you are in for a treat - forests, meadows, gardens, a freshwater pond - it’s one of Mother Nature’s best shows on Long Island.
Awards will include age groups through 85 and over, Clydesdales and Athenas. There will be a very nice T shirt and lots of raffle prizes courtesy of the efforts of our host Abe Bernstein.
The entire net proceeds of the event will be turned over to the Feinstein Institute of North Shore- LIJ Health System and its Chronic Lymphatic Lymphoma research and treatment program.
A word from Run sponsor and Chair Abe Bernstein: “For those who have participated in the Sprint for the Feinstein Institute in prior years, thank you for keeping me alive and kicking, For those who join us in the Sprint for the first time in 2013, welcome. Your dollars will probably help save the life of a friend, a relative or someone you know. And - it’s a great race course as well.”
