Students enrolled in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District’s Pasadena Elementary School recently completed a fitness goal by cumulatively running and walking 26 miles, the same distance as the New York City Marathon. The “Running of the Marathon,” a physical education based program, taught students about setting positive goals, living a healthy lifestyle and the five boroughs — which are included in the marathon’s path. Students ran and walked one quarter-mile lap each day at the beginning of recreational time, resulting in one mile a day. To highlight their achievement, the students decorated paper sneakers to symbolize their participation and dedication to the goal.
