A glistening sun joined the community in turning out to honor those who lost their lives when serving their country, in the annual Memorial Day Parade on May 29. Two highly decorated veterans -- Alec Noga and Stan Nadel -- were this year's grand marshals.

BOE Cuts $1.13 Million from School Budget
The Board of Education moved swiftly on Tuesday evening, June 1, finalizing $1,133,808 worth of cuts in the school budget and voting to adopt the reduced 2000-20001 school budget. The public will vote on this smaller budget on Tuesday, June 20.

On the Bay
The Port Washington Yacht Club yachts Avalanche, sailed by Al and Craig Albrecht, and Happy Daze II, sailed by Tom Egan Sr. and Tom Egan Jr., each won their division in the 53rd Annual PWYC YRA Day Race. The regatta was held on Sunday, May 21, in overcast conditions in the waters between Hart Island and Matinecock Point. The fleet sailed the 15 nautical mile around-the-buoys course with a 5-10 knot breeze from the east. Racers had a close-reached downwind finish off Barker's Point at the mouth of Manhasset Bay.

Varsity Lacrosse finishes Its Season Ranked Number Two in the County
On Friday, May 26, the boys varsity lacrosse team met South Side on the turf at Hofstra in the Nassau County class B semifinals. The number two ranked Port Washington Vikings came into this game with confidence and a 14-3 record. The game got underway just after 3:30 on a hot Friday afternoon in front of a large and enthusiastic pre-holiday crowd.
