Lucy J. Contino 75, a longtime resident of Port Washington, died on Aug. 31, 2000. Lucy was the wife of the late Michael Contino. She is survived by her children, James Michael and Leanna and Gloria Ann; by her grandchildren, Michelle, Vincent, Noelle and Steven; and her siblings, Josie Grello, Rose Ashman, Carmela (Millie) Augostino, Pat Caruso and Julia Mitchell. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Lucy was the proprietor of Contino Catering. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Mass celebrated at St. Peter of Alcantara. Entombment Nassau Knolls Cemtery.
Jack Dempsey, 61, died on Sept. 1, 2000. He is survived by his wife Mary Lu and his children Kathleen Vincent, John and David. He is also survived by his brother James and two grandchildren. Jack was a member of the North Shore Yacht Club. He was the Sailing Commodore there in 1984-86. He was active in the celebration of Home Mass for the St. Peter of Alcantara Outreach Program. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Mass at St. Peter of Alcantara. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
Diane McGorry, 69, of Stuart, FL, died on Sept. 3, 2000, at her residence. Born in Flushing, she was a resident of Stuart for 20 years moving from Port Washington. Prior to retirement, she was a medical transcriber for St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn for over 15 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph McGorry, and father, Charles Rose. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy McGorry and Curtis Martin of Prattsville, NY; son and daughter-in-law, John and Carmen McGorry of Boonton, NJ; five grandchildren; her mother, Day Rose of Stuart; and two brothers, William Rose of Rye, NH, and Charles Rose of Smithtown. Arrangements were made by the Aycock Funeral Home, Stuart.
