Port Police Officer Injured in Motorcycle Accident on Port Blvd.
At mid-morning on Saturday, July 21, the traffic on Port Blvd. was stopped and backed up because of a motor vehicle accident. According to police officials, a Port Washington Police Department police officer on motorcycle, Alan Paxton, who was assigned to be a funeral escort for the son of a former police officer, was hit by a 33-year-old woman from Manhasset.

Baxter Estates Mayor Calls Parking Near Library "Lawless"
As a prelude to the reopening of the Port Washington Public Library, Baxter Estates residents are concerned over parking on local streets near the library. About two dozen residents of Locust Avenue, North Washington St. and Tianderah Drive - all roads within walking distance of the library - packed the Baxter Estates village office to air those concerns at July 10 meeting of the board of trustees.

On Sunday, July 8, there was no bay racing. Instead, the Knickerbocker YC held their annual Knickerbocker Day Race. Both the one-design fleet and the big boats competed. The Sonars and the MBOs completed three races. Congratulations to Mike McAllister and his crew on Gumby (Sonar) and to Grace Allen and her crew on Miss B Haven (MBO) for their three first place finishes. Readers may recall that the Olin Express, the oldest continually sailed Olin Stephens-designed boat, was recently launched after seven years of renovations. It's good to have her back in the waters of Manhasset Bay.
