In your story titled, "Design Alterations Made to Daly Renovations to Comply with ADA Requirements" on page 1 of the Thursday, Jan. 16 edition of your paper stated that Residents For a More Beautiful Port Washington started a rumor that the senior housing units planned for the Morewood property will no longer be age restricted.

Here are the facts:

The Sunday New York Times on Nov. 24 carried an advertisement for this development, known as HarborView, which contained no references whatsoever to age restrictions for buyers of these townhouses, villas and condominiums.

At a ceremony the next day at the Main Street Park, Town Supervisor May Newburger was asked about the ad. She suggested we put in writing to her our concerns and town officials would look into it and get back to us.

We wrote to her the following week summarizing the history and purpose of the age restrictions. The letter concluded:

"Please advise us how we may work with you to ensure that this project stays true to your often articulated vision of a facility to meet the needs of seniors without adversely impacting our schools, taxpayers or natural resources."

If, indeed, as reported in the Port News, the HarborView ad was in error and that the age restrictions should have been noted, we are relieved. There was much concern in our community that notwithstanding the expense and dislocations of the present school district expansion project, the finished product would have been rendered instantly obsolete by a mammoth new housing development replete with hundreds of new school-age children.
