Under the direction of the athletic director of the Port Washington Schools, Rose Bonanno and with the assistance of Schreiber High School students, Great Neck/Port Washington Lodge #1543 sponsored the Elks "Hoot Shoot" at Weber Middle School on Jan. 11. Three boys and three girls, ages 8 - 13, won the first round of competition and have been named the Lodge Champions.

First-place trophies were awarded to one boy and one girl in each of three categories: Ages 8 - 9, 10 - 11 and 12 - 13. Runner-up trophies were also awarded. Certificates of Participation were awarded to all the competitors.
The Elks "Hoop Shoot," which began as a local program by Covallis, Oregon Elks in 1946, is in its 31st year of national competition. Over three million boys and girls are expected to participate this year.
