I had the pleasure of attending The State of the Town Message for the Town of North Hempstead given by our very Honorable May W. Newburger, supervisor, held Friday, Jan. 31, at the George Washington Manor in Roslyn at the invitation of the Port Washington - Manhasset League of Women Voters.

One of the highlights of her speech was her comment regarding town officials: "You hire and fire us at each election if you vote. If you don't vote - don't complain." It sends us this message: "Be aware, think, decide. " This enables us to choose our leaders wisely.

Fortunately, the residents of the Town of North Hempstead and, in particular, the voters in Port Washington, have elected the good government we are enjoying today.

To maintain this legacy, we need everyone to participate - those who are not registered to register and vote, and eligible voters who stay home.

Our town is presently in excellent shape - let's work for the same success for the county. County Executive Tom Suozzi needs all of us to participate and with Craig Johnson as our county legislator, we can accomplish for the county the same success we have accomplished for our town.
