Zev Hoffman, 72, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack on Dec. 13, 2002. A Holocaust survivor of Auschwitz and Dachau, he emigrated from his native Czechoslovakia to Israel in 1947, where he later fought and was wounded in the Israeli War of Independence. Zev had been a resident of Port Washington for the past 34 years. He is survived by his wife, Yael, sons Rob of Manhattan and Roy of Pittsburgh and daughter Michelle and her family - Alon, Ariel and Jonathan of Cleveland. He will be missed dearly.

Capt. Thomas B. Delaney, MD, (USN Ret.), 79, of Port Washington, died on Feb. 11, 2003 at Winthrop University Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Lowell, MA, he was the son of Dr. Thomas B. and Mary F. Delaney. In 1945 he graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and in 1948 from Syracuse University Medical School. After a 22-year naval career he retired as a Captain in the Medical Corps. and began his 22-year career at Winthrop University Hospital where he was founder of the Cardio-Pulmonary Lab. After his retirement he was a dedicated servant in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Outreach Program at St. Peter of Alcantara RC Church in Port Washington where he was a trustee. He was a longtime member of the North Hempstead Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth E. Delaney; his children, Ruth (Robin) Delaney of Wesley Chapel, FL, Margaret M. Delaney-Chaides of Victor, NY, Thomas B. Delaney Jr. of Fairfax Station, VA, Sean M. Delaney of Las Vegas, NV, William A. Delaney of Port Washington, Siobhan M. Wright of Bowie, MD, Deirdre (Dede) D. Daniel of Anchorage, AK and Niall J. Delaney of Larchmont.; 13 grandchildren; and his sister Alice Saunders of Worcester. He was preceded in death by his sister Maria King and his granddaughter Caitlin Daniel.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter of Alcantara RC Church. Burial service private.

Helen P. Finch, 82, of Port Charlotte, FL, died on Feb. 16, 2003 at her residence. She was born Sept. 5, 1920 in Spartanburg, SC and moved to Port Charlotte in 1974 from Port Washington. She was the manager of Self Service Shoe in Port Charlotte until it closed in 1991.

Survived by a daughter, Lynn E. (Dennis) Amberg of Punta Gorda, FL; a son, Michael T. (Vicki) Finch of Lawrenceville, GA; eight grandchildren, Michael Jr. and Samantha Finch, Nancy Robinson, Melissa (Don) Marlett, Krista Amberg, Tammy (Ben) Hanson, Tracey Smart and Ronnie Finch; 10 great-grandchildren, Justin Krieg, Alyssa Robinson, Micah Hession, Hannah Marlett, Nick, Lindsay and Baylee Hanson, Joe, Christina and Jonathan Smart; a niece, Tootsie (Bart) Brake of Saratoga, NY; two nephews, Chris and Darrell (Nanci) Brake. Mrs. Finch was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie, her husband, Toy, a sister, Betty Leigh and brother, Archie Prince.

Arrangements were made by the Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Charlotte. Memorial services will be held Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 2230 NE Hariet St., Port Charlotte. Rev. Jay Mumper will officiate. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
