Coaches Jeff and John Froccaro had an impressive season opener when their sixth grade boys PYA lacrosse team beat Hicksville 4-3. Hicksville, known to be a lacrosse powerhouse team, wasted no time in getting off their first goal despite the defensive efforts of Michael Brown, Michael McCabe, Jimmy Reardon, and Chris Wands. Even with the solid offense of Doug Bosswick and Aaron Lee, Port remained scoreless at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter Hicksville kept up the pressure scoring a goal early on when Jeff Froccaro, assisted by Matt Quirk fired one in to bring Port within one goal. Hicksville answered back but Port was relentless. Franco Signorini, Jess Block, Sean McNamara and Also Mazzaferro were all over the field providing a solid defense enabling Timmy Pond, assisted by Jeff Froccaro to fire a rocket and bring the game to within yet another one goal reach. The pressure on, Jeff Froccaro won the faceoff and with the defensive efforts of Perry Dube and Ethan Sullivan was able to drive up the middle and score bringing the game to a tie. With only seconds remaining in the third quarter Jeff Froccaro fired one off with a feed from Doug Bosswick putting Port ahead by a score of 4-3. The offensive and defensive performances of both teams coupled with Bryan Gerard in goal who had an impressive nine saves on the day, kept the game scoreless in the fourth quarter. Port walked away with an impressive season opener win of 4-3.
