Stripers Are Plentiful in Manhasset Bay
The ongoing New York Times series on Long Island Sound has proclaimed the resurgence of the striped bass population is booming. This comeback, which has taken about 20 years, is very evident in the catches in Manhasset Bay and promises continued great fishing in the future. The months of June and July are the best months for striper fishing highlighted by a June tournament, which holds out a $1,000 prize for the best catch.

Date Set for Greatest Bluefish Tournament 2003
The 21st annual WICC McDermott Autogroup Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth takes place Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23-24 on the Long Island Sound. Sept. 13-14 has been delegated as the alternate weekend in case the tournament needs to be rescheduled due to natural disaster (e.g. hurricane). The tournament offers over $45,000 in cash and attracts more than 5,000 registered anglers from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and as far away as Florida and Texas for this one of a kind tournament.
