I read with much interest your front page article (Sept. 25) about the "topping out" ceremony for the 65,000 square foot Stop & Shop supermarket being constructed on Shore Road. I'm just curious ... has anyone addressed the problems of increased traffic, water, sewage, noise and quality-of-life issues that are sure to arise as a result of such construction?
Your article states that Jim Sylvia, Stop & Shop's vice president for real estate, himself acknowledged that this construction is taking place "in the heart of a residential community." I shudder to think what traffic, for instance, will be like - not only on Shore Road, but on the already congested Main Street and Beacon Hill Road area. The delivery trucks, tractor trailers, and additional auto traffic from anticipated shoppers (and the pollution that is inherent in that) surely cannot be a good thing for Port Washington. Is our little village turning into Queens East?
