The Port Washington Xtreme (BU12) are off to a strong start, with a victory in league play last weekend to run their season record to 3-0, and a first round win in the season-long State Cup tournament. The boys got off to a slow start in Saturday's league game against Syosset, before the offense began to gel. Mark Catanzaro scored twice, with Jonathan Commisso and Nico Capetola contributing one goal each. CJ Quackenbush's strong play on the wing provided his teammates many opportunities. Goalkeeper Peter Maxted recorded the shutout with several high-flying acrobatic saves. The strong defense allowed Port's Xtreme to control the play for most of the second half, and notch a convincing 4-0 win.
The opening round of State Cup challenge play on Sunday against a skilled Plainedge squad provided a change of pace from the day before and a resounding 6-2 victory Gabriel Pena led the charge with three sure-footed goals. Ryan Elton, Quackenbush and Catanzaro also tallied one goal each. Consistently strong supportive play from Capetola, Commisso and Kyle Johnson led to an assist each. Liam Neville, Ross Balaban, Andrew Keen and Andrew Vasquez headed a strong defense...
The Daredevils (BU11) have also been dominant in early season play, with convincing wins against teams from Franklin Square and Wantagh-Seaford, and a scoreless tie against perennial powerhouse Rockville Centre. The team is competing in LIJSL's Division 2, on the strength of last season's record in D3, and looking forward to another strong season against even tougher competition.
