Carolyn Ryder Villalva, 84, formerly of Port Washington, died on Nov. 3, 2003 in Middleton, WI. A private service was held on Nov. 7 at the home of her daughter in nearby Madison.
Mrs. Villalva was born March 13, 1919 in Kagoshima, Kyushu, Japan, to American missionary parents, Rev. Dr. Stephen W. and Reba Snapp Ryder. The family returned to the US in 1929. She attended schools in NYC and Kingston, NY, and, in 1941, graduated from Beaver College in Jenkintown, PA. She was married to John J. Parera-Villalva from 1947 to 1976. She lived in Port Washington and Sands Point from 1955 to 1975, then in Florida until 2002, when she moved to Wisconsin. Always fond of reading and music, she sang for many years in the choir of the Reformed Church of Manhasset. She was an active member of the Port Washington Yacht Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia V. Heilman of Thornwood, NY, and Diane V. Nuttcombe of Madison, WI; a sister, Elizabeth R. Eighmey of Kingston; a brother, Stephen W. Ryder Jr. of Medford; and four grandchildren.

Marie Goodwin (Zofchak), 84, died on Nov. 8, 2003. Wife of the late George. Mother of Joan Cobb of Nashville, IL, and Andrew Driggers of Tallahassee, FL. Lillian Russo, of Port Washington, died on Nov. 9, 2003. Lillian was an associate director for NBC Television in NYC. She is survived by her children, Phyllis Govan and James Russo; her grandchildren, Corinne, Robert and Jennifer; her great-grandchildren, Julia and Christopher. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Peter of Alcantara RC Church. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery.
Robert C. Van Name, 85, died on Nov. 13, 2003. Bob was raised in New York and spent a lifelong career with AIG, living in South America and the Far East for the CIA. At 55 Bob retired, moved to Vero Beach, FL, where he served on several charity boards and was dedicated to the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He survived his wife "Johnny" by 10 years. He was a wonderful stepfather to Peggy Kordts of LI and children Tiffany and Whitney and to Karen and Gene Simonsen of Vero Beach and their children Katie, Clint and Dympna, Margaret, Elizabeth and Max and his great-grandchild Lily. Together this September, the whole family celebrated his 85th birthday. We all applauded his life and will miss him terribly! Peggy and Karen also wish to thank everyone who was part of dad's life...you all meant so much to him! Local arrangements were made by the Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. Amelia Reyes, MD, died on Nov. 15, 2003 in Port Washington. Much loved local pediatrician who practiced for more than 20 years, she loved to garden, travel and write. She leaves behind her mother Adelaida; three sisters; children, Julian, Patricia, Elizabeth and Lukas; 15 nieces and nephews; and many dear friends including the Rev. Diana Austin. Her office will remain open and the practice assumed by Dr. Madeline Pugliese and Dr. Lisa Menasse-Palmer, who have been working with Dr. Reyes for two years.
