It appears that fiscal irresponsibility and fiscal excesses continue unabated by the Board of Education. As reported in the November 6 issue of Port News the latest BOE fiscal follies deal with a payment of $7,491.52 to the Water District to repair damage to a water-main valve during construction and $20,000 that the BOE is considering spending on a reception desk for Daly. Both are outrageous!
The BOE's acceptance of Turner Construction representative, Mr. Kevin Sawyer's cop-out that.."any number of subcontractors present at the site could have been responsible for the water main problem", defies all reason and abrogates the BOE's financial accountability to the citizens of Port Washington! Turner Construction who is the GC (General Contractor) and who is responsible for the subcontractors, should have been the one to pay for the damage, not the taxpayers of Port Washington! Shame on you, BOE for being snookered and for abrogating your fiduciary responsibility!
The proposed $20,000 reception desk for Daly, reminds one of the several-thousand-dollar shower curtain, toilet, and other such excesses by the federal government several years ago. This is an incomprehensible outrage that must not be allowed to happen. It's an absolute disgrace for the BOE to even consider this absurdity. Kudos to members Nancy Cowles and Roy Nelson who put the brakes to this travesty. Should, by some quirk of fate, this misguided expenditure be approved, those BOE members who voted for it, should be removed from office! Enough is enough!"
