Though the sky was overcast on Nov. 7, the groundbreaking ceremony at Daly Elementary School couldn't have been sunnier. Parents, administrators, Principal Elaine Ajello, school board members, students, community members, and many others took part in the official ceremony to usher in the beginning of the school's renovation.
After student government officials led everyone in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, School Board President Laura Mogul spoke on behalf of the administration and board. HSA Co-presidents Virginia Rybecky and Joann Sica added their words as well.
When the moment arrived for the actual groundbreaking, the honor was given to the youngest student in the school, Anthony Currier and Daly's oldest student, Reimi Yoshikawa, with the able assistance of Eric Vonderhorst, director of buildings and grounds and Kevin Sawyer, Turner Construction site manager.
Also participating in the groundbreaking were three generations of the Deriu family, all Daly graduates. They represented the many other multi-generational families who have also attended the school. Adding to the celebration were the Daly band, orchestra, and fifth grade chorus, who entertained the audience with their musical selections.
The ceremony came to a close with the singing of the Daly School song, and was followed by refreshments courtesy of the HSA. The construction project is off to a stylish start!
