Anyone who is involved with organizing or operating a sailing program of any kind is invited to attend the US SAILING's Annual National Sailing Program Symposium. This year it will be held from Jan. 28 - Feb. 1 at the Oakland Marriott City Center in Oakland, CA. Though this is a distance to travel, local sailors who attended the 2003 Symposium in Annapolis, MD will attest to the wealth of knowledge acquired, the great networking opportunities, and the fun they all had in Annapolis. The symposium has something of interest for everyone, and is for those involved with junior sailing, Junior Olympics, community sailing, yacht clubs, windsurfing schools, camps, Boy Scout, Girl Scout and Sea Scout Programs, college and high school programs, all sailing coaches, adult programs, adaptive programs, parks and recreation, and any YMCA or YWCA programs. This symposium is for all levels of involvement whether you are a first year organizer, a veteran program director, a volunteer, a staff person, an instructor, a board member or a parent. Topics will cover the full spectrum from the nuts and bolts of starting a new program to the intricacies of keeping a successful program running smoothly. Of interest to readers may be the small boat instructor course, powerboat instructor certification course, youth module, and/or the high school coaching module. If you want to find, develop, and discuss new ideas for your program, the National Sailing Programs Symposium is the place to get it done. More information, go to www.USSAILING.org.
