Port Schools Open With 5,056 Students
The opening of the 2006-07 school year in Port went almost seamlessly, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Geoff Gordon. This year his own children started in the school system too because the Gordon family moved here over the summer.

Medieval Festival Entertains and Educates for One More Weekend
For two weekends every September since 1980 the Medieval Festival comes to the Sands Point Guggenheim Estate courtesy of Nassau County and MSR (Medieval Scenarios and Recreations.) This Saturday and Sunday are the last two days for this year.

Local sailor, John Thomson, and his crew on board Infinity, raced in the 2006 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship in Newport, RI Sept. 6-9. Thomson's crew included Peter Stalkus (tactician), Tony Reaper, Robbie Oldmeadow, Paul Cuneo, Ronnie Saccardo, Sean McNeill, Sayard Benvenuti, Matt Fries, and Mac Manion. Other local sailors included two boats from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point. Pete Must and his crew on Nimbus, won the Service Academy Trophy. The other entry representing USMMA was Solution, helmed by Jeremiah Lyons, with Ralf Steitz as tactician.
