The location crew for tv show “Royal Pains” (with a popular storyline about doctors in the Hamptons) was drawn to the creative and colorful storefront of wit & whim, which opened last September on Carlton Avenue off Main Street. The life and style shop –with a twist– was transformed overnight to the fictitious Hampton eatery: Baker & The Bean.
“The irony is that we pride our shop as having a part Brooklyn, part Hampton feel,” said wit & whim owner and creator Laurie Scheinman. “And Port Washington is right in between.”
Scheinman said that while she hopes filming the show will promote local business, she is pleased that the television location people appreciate the small town beauty of Port Washington. Aside from the cast of actors and extras, set designers brought in everything needed to make the set believable: tables, chairs, coffee mugs, plates and even croissants. Members of the casting crew even purchased some items from wit & whim. The film crew was spotted last Monday and Tuesday of last week.
No one thought any of it was a royal pain.
