Red Cross Honors Roslyn Heroes
Captain Peter Liotta of the Roslyn Rescue's Hook & Ladder Company No. 1 attended the American Red Cross in Nassau County's Second Annual Real Heroes Breakfast, held May 14 at the Garden City Hotel. The breakfast honored 47 local heroes who have shown "courage, compassion, and unselfish character" in times of emergency. The Red Cross also posthumously honored all Nassau County residents who lost their lives at the World Trade Center on September 11.

Roslyn native Nancy Newman returned to her hometown last Wednesday to give a talk about her novel, Disturbing the Peace and to describe the creative process behind the writing and publishing of the book, which is currently in circulation.

North Shore Sports Wrap-up
In softball action, North Shore beat MacArthur 3-2 in the first round of the Class B playoffs last Friday, with Christie Swiezbin's two-out single in the fifth inning driving in Sierra Neal for the winning run. Zalika Pierre went 3 for 3 with an RBI in the fourth and a later run that inning that tied the score. Pitcher Kim Lerch struck out 12 for the win.
