The Sid Jacobson JCC Jayhawks, a third grade team playing in the fourth grade Division of the Super League at Island Garden came away with a 39-31 victory over the tough Half Hollow Hills (Hauser) team in a rare home game played last Sunday at the JCC. The Jayhawks evened their record at 3-3 and again proved that they can play against the older and bigger clubs in this tough division.
Coached by David Rothman, Jeff Gould and Stu Dinetz, the team has jelled recently and has given no quarter to older more experienced teams, which on paper figure to blow them out. They play an aggressive, take chances defense and look to break on every defensive board. This was evident from the get-go in this game as HHH was on its heels from the constant pressure. The Jayhawks took an early 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
This was the Jayhawks second highest point production of the season and rarely has a team this young been able to approach 40 points in multiple Superleague games - especially this early in the season. The scoring broke out as follows: Danny Gould (11 points), Brian Rogofsky (9), Kenny Rothman (9), Ben Mitchell (4), Jared Fried (2), Brandon Friedman (2) and Reid Karp (2).
