"The DPW has consistently done well in plowing our streets," said Mayor John Durkin. "The recent blizzard and continuing snowstorm stress the importance of having the right equipment for our DPW to keep Village streets clear. More importantly, the $50,000 for the purchase of this truck has come from the current budget. The new truck is a 2005 Ford F450, a heavy-duty public works vehicle. The truck was purchased through the New York state bid list as a multi purpose snowplow vehicle consisting of a dump body, sander/plow assembly and Department of Transportation required safety equipment. By purchasing off the State list, we were able to save the taxpayers approximately $5,000."
Mayor Durkin added that the new truck replaces a worn-out truck. "The steep hills in Roslyn Village put an additional strain on Village vehicles when the trucks are loaded with sand and are plowing snow," he said. "The geography and terrain of the Village limit the expected operating life of these vehicles."
