This election year there's good news for Roslyn Villagers.
John Durkin, who has served splendidly as our mayor for a number of years, has agreed to stand for re-election. He is joined by Village Trustees Nolan Myerson and Marta Genovese who also are up for re-election.
All three have earned our admiration and applause and the re-election of all three is supported by both Roslyn political parties: The Roslyn Community Party and the Clock Tower Party. The reasons for this outstanding support are abundantly clear. ...
While all of us wince at the rate at which our county taxes, state taxes and federal taxes are really going up, Mayor Durkin and the Village Board have consistently tried to avoid adding to your tax burden. And, indeed, they have not raised taxes in the 2004-05 fiscal year. This has not been a small accomplishment; it has taken knowledge, experience, plus very careful budgeting and planning to make our current village expenses fit inside of our village income!
The improvements in Roslyn's state of the village are legion. Mayor Durkin and the current board have brought in funds where they know there are state grants. The Clock Tower - Roslyn's landmark - is being restored at no cost to Roslyn taxpayers. An improved tax base comes, in part, from the fact that there are no store vacancies in the village. And we have a comprehensive, ongoing program of road restoration and still no increase in current village taxes.
Equally important - our village has, for years, been a model of democracy at work. The government is open; no one with a request or a comment is any longer refused a fair and complete hearing. Mayor Durkin and our trustees are dedicated to the idea that Roslyn is not just their village ... it is your village! For more information, we invite you to visit website Durkinformayor.com.
So it is extremely important that you take just a few minutes to vote for your village mayor and trustees. Election day is March 15; the place is Roslyn Village Hall, 1200 Old Northern Blvd. Voting hours are noon to 9 p.m.
Remember to support Mayor Durkin and Trustees Myerson and Genovese.
