At its May 3 meeting, the Town of North Hempstead council approved a resolution, which nominates property in Roslyn for possible Bond Act funding.
The recipient of such funding would be the Roslyn Pond Park. The project would involve both the reduction of stormwater pollution and the improvement of 23 acres of parkland at Roslyn Pond Park and its surrounding watersheds.
Any funding would come under the auspices of the Nassau County Environmental Bond Act. For a number of years, stormwater pollution has been an issue of concern for a number of businesses in downtown Roslyn.
In other news, the TONH council rejected several efforts to acquire property on 80 Roslyn Road in Roslyn Heights by turning down public hearings on such acquisition possibilities.
The first resolution rejected by the council would have allowed the Town of North Hempstead Community Development Agency to sell to the town the property at 80 Roslyn Road. The property would have been used as parkland space only, and the disposition would have taken place without a public auction or sealed bids.
The council also rejected a resolution that would have authorized the issuance of Environmental Legacy Fund bond proceeds for $205,000 for the acquisition of that same property, again to be used as parkland.
At its April meeting, the council approved several other resolutions concerning local property.
It set Tuesday, May 24 as the date for a public hearing on the town's Historic Landmarks Preservation Commission's proposal to designate the Searing House as an historic landmark. The Searing House is located at 160 IU Willets Road, Albertson.
The council also approved the establishment of a Site Plan Review for planned renovations at the Roslyn Country Club. The applicant is seeking approval for a one story rear addition and other interior renovations as well as landscaping, parking and "other changes" to the Country Club property, located on the north side of Club Drive, with frontage on Saddle Land and Locust Lane.
In addition, the council approved a request by Roslyn Highlands for approval of a lease/purchase agreement for the acquisition of two Seagrave Quint P-75 Custom Fire Trucks. Council members state that the principal amount of the purchase is not to exceed $1,167,130.
Finally, the council approved an ordinance that will establish the Town speed limit of 30 MPH and school speed zones of 20 MPH on Shelter Rock Road, IU Willets Road, Center Street, and Searingtown Road in Searingtown, New Hyde Park, Williston Park and Albertson, villages that are all within the Herricks School District.
