On Thursday, June 2, the Roslyn Middle School Bulldogs defeated the North Shore Vikings by a score of 11-2, to complete an undefeated season. The 11-0 season also included close wins over Wheatley, Herricks, Clarke Middle School and Weber.
Sara Ribakove pitched her seventh complete game of the season, and hit a home run in the win. Her record for the season was 9 wins, 0 losses, and she averaged almost 2 strikeouts per inning.
After North Shore took the lead by 2-1 in the top of the second, Roslyn re-took the lead in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. North Shore threatened but never scored again. Leigh Zigoury tripled for Roslyn while catcher, Dani Wolfe, shortstop, Kate Kerpen, and first baseman, Sophie Foster, stood out defensively.
Coached by Michelle Salerno, the Roslyn Girls Softball team consists of both 7th and 8th grade girls. Sara Ribakove and Dani Wolfe will be back next year, while others including Devin Gaynor, Leigh Zigoury, Meredith Shapiro, Sara Loshak and Sophie Foster will move on to Roslyn High School.
