Island Harvest, Long Island's food rescue program, is holding its ninth annual Golf Classic fundraiser on Thursday, July 14, at The Creek in Locust Valley. It is held each year to support Island Harvest's mission to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island. This year's Golf Classic will honor noted businessman Lewis Ranieri for his commitment and dedication to various organizations on Long Island.

The Classic will begin at 10:30 a.m. with brunch and registration, followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start and will conclude with a beach party and awards celebration at 5:30 p.m. The tournament will also feature a Hole-In-One, Longest Drive, and Closest to the Pin contest. Golf registration including the beach party is $750 per player, $3,000 for a foursome and it will cost $150 for non-players to attend the beach party immediately following the tournament.

Computer Associates International, Inc. is the Classic Tournament sponsor for this year's golf outing. Other sponsors include Bouchard Transportation Company, Inc; NIC Holding Corp.; I. Several expenses have also been underwritten through the generosity of local corporations and individuals. Castlewood Apparel Corp. has underwritten the costs of the golfer's gifts; Barry Chandler will cover the beach party; the snack and beverage station will be provided through The God Squad; MSC Industrial Supply Co. has underwritten the Driving Range; Sandi and David Nussbaum will provide the trophies for the evening; Ellen and Harvey Sanders have offered to take care of photographic services and UPS is the putting green underwriter.

Island Harvest, Long Island's Source Authority on Food Rescue, serves as the bridge between those who have surplus food and those who need it. In support of its mission to end hunger and reduce food waste, Island Harvest has rescued 30 million pounds of food that has supplemented approximately 23 million meals since its inception in 1992. Equipped with a trained corps of dedicated volunteers coupled with over 500 commercial food establishments that donate surplus food, Island Harvest rescues more than five million pounds of food each year, supplementing more than three million meals.
