Winthrop Hospital's "First and Goal Challenge" contest winners recently took to the field to practice with New York Jets All-Pro Center Kevin Mawae.
Earlier this year, for a $100 commitment benefiting Winthrop's Child Life Program and Pediatric Services, entrants crossed their fingers in hopes of winning great prizes, compliments of Mawae.
Two lucky grand prize winners, Roslyn resident Chuck Friedlander and Melville resident Paul Quinto, were invited by Mawae to a highly anticipated one-on-one training session in early June at the Jets' Long Island training facility at Hofstra University.
The second prizewinners, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Longo of Garden City, won a round trip, complete with tickets and transportation, to a Jets' 2005 away game.
And the third prize winners, Joe Bosnack of Rockville Centre and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Gassaway of Oak Hills, CA, won tickets to a Jets' 2005 home-game, complete with an opportunity to sit in Mawae's seats. Other prizes included autographed jerseys, autographed footballs and mini helmets. Every entrant walked away with an autographed picture.
"Winthrop's Pediatric Inpatient Center is the real definition of an 'All Pro Center'" explained Mawae. "They were there for me when I needed them most. Thanks to all who entered for helping to make the hospital stays of Winthrop's young patients more comfortable for them and their families."
