George Gordon, a resident of Roslyn for more than 48 years, died on July 9, 2005. Mr. Gordon moved to Westchester County two years ago to be near his daughter, Judith, of Pleasantville, and two grandchildren. His wife, Elsie Gordon, is deceased. His son, Henry, as well as three grandchildren, live in Sacramento, CA.
Throughout his retirement years, until the age of 90, George was a familiar figure in the county park at Hempstead Harbor, where he donned an old flannel shirt and floppy hat and set off on his daily walk along the promenade. He was also active in the local tennis scene and continued playing into his 80s. Ever the outdoor enthusiast, Mr. Gordon spent winters in sunny Delray Beach, FL. He was an attorney and legal editor, who worked for the West Publishing Co. his entire career. A long history of involvement in civic and educational activities included service on the board of the Bryant Library and many years as a leader of Great Books discussion groups.
A memorial service was held last week in Chappaqua, NY. Donations in memory of George Gordon to Friends of Bryant Library would be greatly appreciated.
