I am writing this in regard to the numerous calls I am receiving, in response to the article that appeared twice in the Anton papers, about the unveiling of the "Walls of Honor" in Eisenhower Park on June 18.

The following are corrections to those articles.

County Executive Thomas Suozzi and the Democratic legislators, were not the hosts of this event. They were invited guests as were the Republican legislators and other elected officials. Many who were invited did come to this event along with approximately 5,000 people who came to honor the names placed on the walls.

The Nassau County Veterans Monument Fund Inc. is a private organization and is not a part of Nassau County government and has no affiliation with any government agency. Because of the mistake and the absence of the $100 donation needed for each name, many assumed that either there was no charge or that the county was putting the names on. Please be advised that the county is not responsible for paying for any names that appear on these walls.

The "Walls of Honor" are exactly what they state, they are Honor Walls, not memorial walls. There are more living honorees, than those who have passed. The walls are open to all those who have served our great country throughout time, whether they served during wartime or peace time. It is open to all, no matter where they live and it is open to those who are serving now. If you want more than one name on the wall together, they must be mailed in together. The Vietnam Monument is exactly that, it is a monument, not a memorial. It is a tribute to all who served during the Vietnam War. Honoring those who are still with us and those who have passed. We are still in need of funds to make this happen. If you would like to help make this wonderful tribute a reality, please send a check to the address below.
