The Mineola Chiefs 8-year-olds beat the Hicksville Crusaders 26-18 in front of a home crowd of over 100 screaming fans and brought their record to 2-0. The Chiefs offense moved the ball all day long because of great blocking by the offensive line centered by Gavin Dowd and anchored by Michael Delio, Kyle Facibene, Matthew Lafaye and Michael Patalano.

The Chiefs started the first half on defense, and on the very first play Brian Smith intercepted a pass from Hicksville. The Chiefs offense took over the ball and put together a strong 50-yard scoring drive, featuring key runs by running backs Andrew Cunningham, Ryan Eccher and Anthony Preston. The drive finished when quarterback Thomas O'Connell ran a sweep around the end for an exciting 25-yard touchdown run. The Chiefs defense held them to four plays and out. On the next offense series O'Connell handed off the ball to Kyle Spruill, who ran the end-around for a 43-yard touchdown. Teddy Capsis dove in for the extra point to give the Chiefs a 13-0 advantage.

The Chiefs started the second half on offense with a 13-6 lead. On this series quarterback O'Connell ran a sneak up the middle, and then took it outside for an exciting 53-yard touchdown run. Spruill ran around the end again, this time for the extra point and the 20-6 lead. But Hicksville came right back and cut the lead to 20-12. On the next series James Gerstner had a strong 30-yard run, which set up an 18-yard touchdown by Charles Brown. This gave the Chiefs a comfortable 26-12 lead.

The defense fought tough against the Hicksville Crusaders all day long. The defensive line of Capsis, Eccher, John Clancy, Lucas Golon, TJ Kemmet and Dennis Gannon kept the pressure on Hicksville's offense. The linebackers and cornerbacks were fearless, as they attacked the ball and finished the job. They were led by Cunningham, O'Connell, Patalano, Smith, Eric McCloskey, Peter McCormack and Thomas Davis.
