The tournament team from the T'aeCole Tae Kwon Do dojang (school) did great at the year's New York State Championships held at Farmingdale College on Oct. 16.
The competition was tough and there were many top-seated martial artists with corporate sponsors from all over the Tri-State area. Some of the results were as follows: Master Messina finishing first place in four separate divisions; Sa Bum Nim Ray, finishing second in fighting and second in forms; Maribel Montes finishing first in fighting and third in forms; Azra Canovic finishing third in forms; Sahil Parikh finishing third in fighting; Matthew Connolly finishing second in fighting; Ryan Spalding finishing third in fighting; and Pat Conte finishing fourth in forms. The school is located on Willis Avenue in Albertson.
On Oct. 15, the dojang (school) participated in the National Martial Arts Day Kick-A-Thon established by Project Action.
Thousands of martial artists from around the country performed kicks for one hour simultaneously with the proceeds going to help prevent juvenile crime.
In addition, the hardworking participants raised almost $3,000 for Project Action. The age range of the participating martial artists was from 3 years old right up to 54. It was a great workout with the money going to a great cause.
