East Hills Says 'No' to LINSHA's Plans
Mayor Michael R. Koblenz and the Board of Trustees of the Village of East Hills announced its opposition to the implementation of Long Island North Shore Heritage Area's (LINSHA) plans and objectives for the North Shore of Long Island. LINSHA was created by State legislation in 1998. It is exploring ways to further attract tourism and economic development for parts of seven towns on Long Island, including Town of North Hempstead, Oyster Bay, Brookhaven, Huntington, Riverhead, Smithtown and Southold - and the City of Glen Cove in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. LINSHA's goals, according to stated objectives include, among others, "regional economic revitalization," and "economic development with public and private investment."

More Grist Mill Renovation
Grist Mill renovation received a boost recently with grants from Nassau County, the Town of North Hempstead, and the Village of Roslyn, all designed to enhance stabilization projects on both the interior and exterior of the structure, which is located on Old Northern Boulevard.

Athletic Recruiting and Scholarship Seminar
College of the Holy Cross (MA) coach Wayne Mazzoni will be leading a program titled, "The Athletic Recruiting and Scholarship Seminar" at North Shore High School on Wednesday, Nov. 30. The program is to start at 7 p.m. and will be held in the library.

Wheatley Makes Trip to State Championships
For the fourth consecutive year the Wheatley boys varsity cross-country team has won the Nassau County Class "C" Championship and qualified to compete as a team in the New York State Cross Country Championship Meet. Under the leadership of Coach Dan Walsh, the cross country team has performed a championship level that is unprecedented in the history of that sport at Wheatley. A review of the records indicate that during the late 1960s the Wheatley cross country team won three consecutive county titles.
