This past week, the city of New York hosted its annual Fleet Week festivities. A major attraction of the popular event was the appearance of the USS Kearsarge, the aircraft carrier whose executive officer is Roslyn Heights native, Captain James Gregorski.

Mineola Chiefs Defeat Commack 5-0
The Mineola fifth and sixth grade lacrosse team cruised to victory by beating Commack 5 to 0. The Mineola Chiefs dominated Commack by playing perhaps their best game of the season. The Chiefs completely dominated Commack in every aspect of the game. It started with a suffocating defense that only allowed Commack seven shots on goal. Controlling the defensive area was Bobby Dwyer (four groundballs), Matt DePalma (four groundballs), Nick O'Conner, Chris Shanahan and Glen Peters. Backing them up with great goal tending was Tevin Carlo (three saves) and Nick Miller (four saves). This game was the first shutout of their careers.
