Walkers and runners of all ages are encouraged to exercise for a great cause by participating in the 7th Annual Great Neck 5K Family Fun Run/Walk, to benefit the Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at Winthrop-University Hospital. The Run/Walk, which will also honor 2007 and 2008 event sponsor Arlene Lavitt, president of Super Enterprises, is scheduled to take place rain or shine on Sunday, May 4, at Jonathan L. Ielpi Firefighters Park in Great Neck.
The 7th Annual Great Neck 5K Family Fun Run/Walk will raise funds for the CCFK's psychosocial program, which helps patients and families deal with many of the non-medical issues associated with childhood cancer. The program includes experts in clinical psychology, social work, child life activities, and creative arts therapy.
The registration fee for adults is $20; $15 for children ages 6-12; and children 5 years old and younger are free. Event registration begins at 8:15 a.m. on May 4, with the race commencing at 9:30 a.m.
Following the Run/Walk, participants are invited to enjoy festivities including musical entertainment by creative art therapist Glen Schifano, arts and crafts, massages and a special magic show. Snacks and beverages will also be served, with lunch provided by Morton's Steakhouse in Great Neck.
Winthrop's Cancer Center for Kids is a unique state-of-the-science center where children with cancer are given the best possible chance of recovery through superior medical care, constant nurturing and unconditional support in an environment that promotes healing.
