On Monday, Nov. 28, the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Roslyn hosted the first annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration.
The entire Roslyn community was invited to gather at the Ellen B. Ward Memorial Clock Tower. Chamber President Lonnie Goldman, Chamber Vice President of Events Lou Federico, Village of Roslyn Mayor John Durkin and Trustee Marta Genovese were present to help kick off the holiday shopping season.
As the trees were lit, Reverend Margo Peckham Clark of Trinity Episcopal Church led a holiday blessing. Reverend Margo then distributed song sheets and everyone sang along to seasonal favorites. As they continued to sing, the crowd proceeded down Old Northern Boulevard and stopped by the Old Northern Boulevard municipal lot to view more tree lighting.
From there, the carolers walked through downtown Roslyn to their final destination, the East Broadway Garden, where the trees, shrubs and arbors illuminated the night sky. Delicacies Gourmet provided hot chocolate and hot apple cider for all the participants.
Lou Federico and Mayor Durkin both agreed the evening was a success and look forward to future cooperative events, especially next year’s Christmas tree lighting.
