For years, East Hills resident Dr. Alan M. Richards has conducted his own private audiology practice in Manhattan. A decade ago, he decided to expand it to East Hills, where he currently conducts business on 70 Glen Cove Rd.
Richards told The Roslyn News that his “main goal in the practice of audiology is to provide his patients with the best diagnostic and rehabilitative hearing care available in a personal and caring atmosphere.”
“Hearing aids are a significant aspect of audiological practice,” he continued. “It seems that people are bombarded with all sorts of mailings about hearing aids and it generates a lot of confusion. It is my goal to provide patients with an unbiased and clear approach to hearing aid choices, and to take into consideration many of the factors, which influence choosing one instrument or another, or choosing none at all.”
Richards claims that hearing loss should be recognized as a major factor in the isolation of an individual from his family. Along those same lines, he believes that working closely with his patient’s family physician is key to establishing a good rapport with the patient.
In addition to audiology work, Richards, a graduate the City University of New York (CUNY), has also served as a professor of audiology at CUNY. He has authored two textbooks in the area of hearing science, plus numerous research papers in scientific journals.
