Beginning on Sunday, Oct. 4, a single travel lane in each direction of NY Route 25A will be closed at night for limited sections between Deepdale Drive and Fernwood Lane in the Town of North Hempstead.
The closures will take place during the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and will continue Sunday through Thursday, for approximately eight weeks, weather permitting. A single eastbound and a single westbound travel lane will be open to motorists.
These lane closures are needed to perform a federally-funded resurfacing project that requires the removal of the top layer of worn, distressed pavement surface, then replacement with new asphalt pavement and fresh markings for the approximately two mile project area of NY Route 25A.
When completed, this resurfacing work will resolve the concerns raised by the local community regarding the deteriorated condition of this section of NY Route 25A as well as help maintain the integrity of the roadway and provide a smoother, safer riding surface. As with any roadway project, this operation is weather dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
Motorists are being warned in advance of the closing via roadway message signs but are urged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.
In addition, motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone and obey the posted construction speed limit for their safety as well as the safety of the highway work crew.
