I am CEO and President of E Joy Community Resource Center (E Joy CRC), a not-for-profit 501c (3) organization located in Roslyn Heights with a satellite in Holbrook. The purpose of this letter is to introduce our organization and to request your support as we carry out our mission to fight hunger.
E Joy CRC was established in memory of my late mother in-law, Edwinor Joye, a missionary who dedicated her life towards helping others. E Joy’s mission is to promote self-sufficiency and empowerment to economically disadvantaged individuals and families living on Long Island. Our mission is to relieve immediate hunger and address the long-term health and safety needs of low income individuals and families through our food pantries, senior advocacy program, community outreach, adult literacy class and job skills training program.
Since its inception, E Joy CRC has helped over 2,000 families per year by providing supplemental meals to those who are [hungry]. In 2011, we distributed over 32,000 pounds of food to over 2,099 families. However that is still not enough due to the alarming numbers of [those who are hungry] in Long Island with 300,000 people, including 118,000 children being affected. We need your help to continue to serve those who are unemployed, homeless and underemployed. We are seeking partnerships and sponsors.
During the months of March and April, our organization is participating in the Alan Feinstein challenge. Mr. Feinstein is a Rhode Island philanthropist who promises to pledge one million dollars to fight hunger, by matching canned goods for canned goods or dollar for dollar. Whatever we raise in canned goods or in monetary funds, Mr. Feinstein will match. Last year we participated in this challenge and raised $300, which went toward the purchase of food and baby formula.
This year as we participate again, I am asking local residents to partner with us for the Feinstein Challenge by conducting a food drive or making a financial pledge on our behalf. All partnerships will be acknowledged on our website, but most importantly you will have the comfort in knowing that you are helping to provide food for a child.
