Graduation For Prosper Students

Thirty-eight Westbury and Freeport High School students enrolled in Abilities, Inc., at The Viscardi Center’s Prosper Drop-Out Prevention/Attendance program were recently recognized for their accomplishments. Prosper (People Reaching for Opportunities to Succeed Personally, Educationally and Realistically) shows adolescents the relevancy of education as it relates to employment and works towards preventing them from dropping out of school while preparing them for the business world upon graduation.

 

Aaron Kann Wins First Place In Math Olympiads Tournament

Ten students from the East Hills School attended the Seventh Annual Nassau Math Olympiads Tournament held on May 3 at SUNY Old Westbury.  During the tournament, the students competed in individual and team contests.  After a multi-individual tiebreaker, East Hills student Aaron Kann took first place.  These students have participated in Math Olympiads with Ms. Suzanne Falcone this year.  There were 205 students in grades 4-6 from schools throughout Nassau County at the tournament, which was co-sponsored by the Nassau County Mathematics Teachers Association and the Nassau County Association of Mathematics Supervisors.


 

Siskind Named May Rotary Student

The Roslyn Rotary Club honored Elizabeth Siskind as the May Student of the Month at its luncheon.  Elizabeth’s community service included volunteering at Sportime of Roslyn as a tennis instructor for autistic children; volunteering at Growing Tree North observing and monitoring children’s play habits, keeping records on children and sanitizing toys and play equipment; and orchestrating and participating in a Key Club fundraiser for Autism Speaks. She has also participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life as a student chair for Liminaria, Student Chair of Registration and Student Co-Chair overseeing all student committees, ensuring the event runs smoothly, publicizing and fundraising, and planning meetings. 


   

Landman Receives Merit Scholarship

Roslyn High School senior Joshua Landman has received the National Merit Washington University scholarship. Washington University is located in St. Louis, Mo. Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship program who plan to attend their institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship. 


 

April Rotary Student Of The Month
