A total of seventy-four teams participated in the Western Long Island Science Olympiad Regional Competition on February 2 at Kellenberg Memorial High School. The Roslyn team completed twenty-two events, which included Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry Lab, Fermi Questions, and Maglev.
Roslyn achieved eleventh place, just two points shy of qualifying for the New York State Competition in March. The team earned thirteen medals in six different events. This was truly a great accomplishment.
Special congratulations to Arshia Aalami and Arvind Kumar for winning second place in Chemistry Lab; Sahil Anand and Bowen Yu for winning fifth place in Astronomy; Dena Kohn and Diana Jeong Ro for winning fifth place in Triple E; Matthew Forrest and Victor Wu for winning sixth place in Disease Detectives; Arvind Kumar, Rachel Mintz, and Jordan Rosen for winning seventh place in Experimental Design; Dean Oken and Spencer Shores for winning eighth place in Elastic Launch Glider.
The team’s success could not have been possible without the incredible help and dedication from faculty advisors Irena Tsarevsky, Vincent Kreyling, and William Marvin. Additionally, the steadfast guidance from Team Captains Arshia Aalami, Matthew Forrest, Aansh Shah, Rachel Mintz, Sahil Anand, Dena Kohn, and Victor Wu was invaluable to the team’s success. Faculty member Mary Cronin was also instrumental in the team’s triumph.
