The Roslyn High School Mock Trial team was honored by the Nassau County Bar Association at the annual Law Day dinner on May 1 for reaching the finals in the county’s 2013 Mock Trial Tournament. Each team member was also given a citation by Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink in recognition of their commitment “to making a difference in the lives of the people of Nassau County.”
The tournament began in February with 47 public and private schools competing. After winning a preliminary round against Holy Trinity, Roslyn advanced to the Intermediate round and defeated Sewanhaka. This was followed by the “Sweet 16” round, where Roslyn had the opportunity to resume its friendly rivalry with the formidable students of the Clarke Mock Trial team. This was a hard-fought and deeply exciting match, with Roslyn ultimately prevailing by a single point.
In the quarterfinals, Roslyn won another victory against Wheatley, and followed this up with an impressive win over the Rambam Yeshiva in the semifinals. As a result, Roslyn advanced to the finals for the second time in two years, and had the chance to play Our Lady of Mercy for the County Championship. Although Roslyn did not win this final match, the team was once again ranked as the second best Mock Trial team in Nassau County.
This accomplishment would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of Captains Daniel Wasserman and Jason Pollack, attorneys Robbie Miller, Alex Goodman, Brandon Tepper and David Jaslow, witnesses Oona Intemann, Alex Cohen, Daniela Weinstein, Nicolas Furci, Spencer Weissman and Alan Louis, alternates Aaron Czik and Dulcie Xue, and the team’s attorney advisor Ralph Hochberg. As the team prepares for another memorable year in 2013-2014, they look forward to new challenges and making more great memories. The Mock Trial faculty advisor is Jeremy Berman.
