Students at Charles Water Karate & Fitness located 122 Hillside Avenue in Williston Park, have received belt promotions after successfully completing a series of extensive exams.

“Our goal at Charles Water’s Karate & Fitness is to facilitate mental growth enabling our students to reach their highest potential as human beings,” said Charles Water, owner and director of the school. Our studio teaches students how to defend themselves responsibly while instilling self-confidence, self-discipline and respect for others.”

Don Monti Memorial Golf Classic

Saint Mary’s High School Alumni Association will host the 17th Annual Don Monti Memorial Golf Classic and fall Alumni Dinner on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Plandome Country Club.

Don Monti was a student at St. Mary’s in the early 1970s, during which time he was afflicted with leukemia. He died in 1972 at the end of his sophomore year. Almost immediately, his parents Tita and Joe Monti fiercely championed the cause of honoring Don’s name and his valiant battle by continuing the fight against cancer.

 

Start! Heart Walks Come to Nassau County October 4

The Long Island Start! Heart Walks support a groundbreaking national American Heart Association movement to get America walking to live longer, heart-healthy lives. American Heart Association Long Island Start! Heart Walks will take place this October in two locations on Long Island. The first event, the Nassau County Start! Heart Walk will be held at Nassau Community College in Garden City on Sunday, Oct. 4. The Suffolk County Start! Heart Walk will be held at Stony Brook University on Sunday, Oct. 25. For both events, registration and health fairs begin at 8:30 a.m. The official Walk start time is 10 a.m.

 

Bulldogs Set for 2009 Football Season

Fresh off a successful summer camp, the Roslyn High School Bulldogs are looking forward to the 2009 season.

Last year’s season was highlighted by a big win over Jericho in the first “Friday Night Lights” game ever played at the renovated football field.

The 2009 season begins tomorrow night when the Bulldogs play a road game against Mepham. Game time is 1:30 p.m.

Vanderbilt Cup Celebrations August 30

The Sixth Annual Centennial Celebration of the Vanderbilt Cup Races, a festival of over 100 years of speed and glamour, will take place Sunday, Aug. 30 on the grounds of the Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor. The event will include live interviews with the car owners, as well as timed demonstration runs for cars with a racing heritage (dodging hay bales on the museum’s service roads). The Rallye Auto Group is presenting the event.

School district officials welcomes the participation of students in Grades 7-12 in the High School and Middle School interscholastic athletics program and looks forward to meeting them at the following events.

Tryouts begin Monday, Sept. 10 – All Sports.

High school and middle school athletes are required to have all necessary medical paperwork on file before being permitted to try out for any sport. Athletic physical examinations are required annually, must be dated after April 1, 2009 and must be on the school district form. “Medical update Forms” must be completed by the parent and student and dated Aug. 1 or later. Eye clearance forms are also required for those athletes who screen 20/200 without corrective lenses and participate in contact sports. (These forms are available on the Roslyn web site). “Parent consent forms” (blue cards) must be completed for every athlete. These forms are available in the high school or middle school attendance office. Please be sure that all medical forms are returned to the individual school’s nurse’s office by Aug. 11 for processing prior to try-outs.
