The Roslyn High School boys’ soccer squad finished the 2011 regular season with a solid 8-2 record. They have continued their winning ways into the playoffs, prevailing in home games over Bethpage and Mineola. However, the Bulldogs standout season came to an end last Friday when they lost to Jericho, 1 to 0.
Earlier, on Oct. 28, the Bulldogs defeated Bethpage, 4-1 to advance the Class A quarterfinals. And on Nov. 1, the Bulldogs made it two in a row, scoring two points in the second quarter for an exciting, come-from-behind win over Mineola, 2-1.
In the Bethpage game, Matthew Sherr and Brandon Friedman were the offensive stars, with both scoring two goals, while handing out two assists each. The Bulldogs scored all four goals in the first quarter and played tough defense to help those goals stand up.
In the win over Mineola, Paul Sandoval put the Chiefs ahead with a first quarter goal. However, the Bulldogs, playing again at home, stormed back for two goals in the final frame for the win. Brian Cardozo tied the game and then, with 15:25 left in the contest, Matt Sherr scored on a header to give Roslyn the lead and the win.
