Something is definitely in the air around the Roslyn High School football team.
Coming off a dazzling come-from-behind win over Friends Academy, the Bulldogs hosted St. Dominic’s last Saturday, where they promptly scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters for an impressive 42-0 win.
As they have for the past two years, the Bulldogs fielded a remarkably balanced offense, scoring through the ground and air. Alex Epprecht was the star on the ground, gaining 123 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Adam Combs went five for nine with two touchdown passes, one to Isaiah Hunter, the other to Jonathan Fishbach.
Thomas Davis complimented Epprecht’s big day with 107 yards on the ground. On defense, Fishbach and Danny Gould both had fumble recoveries.
The win, as noted, came on the heels of a dramatic comeback win on the road against Friends Academy. In that game, Epprecht was the star on defense, intercepting a pass that lead to a touchdown pass from Combs to Hunter. Epprecht also recovered an onside kick following that score, one that set up the winning drive. It wasn’t easy as the Bulldogs faced a fourth and 18 play. But the offense came through, with Combs completing a pass to Hunter, who lateraled the ball to Thomas Davis with the latter facing an easy path to the end zone.
This Saturday, Oct. 19, Roslyn travels to Port Washington for the biggest game in the school’s recent history. Both Roslyn and Port Washington are 5-0 and since Great Neck North is second in Conference V play with a 3-2 mark, this game will determine the conference champion.
So come out and support the Bulldogs, who look to be on the verge of making school athletic history.
