Winds of Victory as Tornadoes Take Title

For two-and-a-half years, the Syosset Tornadoes worked hard to excel and become tops in their division. Sunday, November 16 was the day that this Boys U12 team had waited for.

The Tornadoes ended their season with a record of 8-2, impressive enough to place them in first. The team won its last three games by scores of 4-1, 3-1 and 4-1 to clinch their champion status.

Midfielders Stephen Polito, Scott Strauss and Eugene Haas, along with Strikers Marello Catania, Steven Finkelstein and Matt Wachler all scored in those final three contest. The remainder of the midfielders, Jared Vuernick, Bryan Webb, Alex Stein and Robb Kalkstein, never let up in support of the team's offensive drives.

The defense had an outstanding season, led by great performances from sweeper Brandon Hill, fullbacks Adam Gerstein and Eric Sherb, and stopper John Alaimo.

Serving double duty on the team, goalies Bobby Goulding, Strauss and Finkelstein are to be commended with their effort and fine play. The three goalies combined for only 11 goals allowed all season.

Coaches Steve Vuernick, Peter Webb, Charlie Goulding and trainer Charlie Moore, as well as team parents, also helped contribute to an exciting season of soccer.
