Church Concert Collects Money for Food Council

Woodbury United Methodist Church hosted a concert for the benefit of the Huntington Community Food Council on Sunday afternoon, November 23. Participating were the combined choirs of the Dix Hills United Methodist Church, St. Margaret's Episcopal Church of Plainview and the Woodbury United Methodist Church, plus two children's choirs, a handbell choir and several instrumentalists.

The service of music featured anthems of the Christian calendar year - Advent, E'en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come; Christmas, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Bells Are Ringing; Epiphany, Here I Am, Lord; Lent, When Jesus Wept; Easter, The Lord is Risen Indeed; and Pentecost, Signs of Life. The music concluded with John Rutter's Te Duem, in honor of Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday before Advent, the end of the church year, which happened to fall on November 23 this year.

The mellifluous presentation was led by music directors Joyce Borgland, Joyce Ianniciello, Dr. R. John Specht and Dr. David Majoros, while organist Ellen Chiang, drummer Joe Carey, cellist Sandy Neill and flutists Jeanne Kontje and Cindy Manalakes shared their talents with the appreciative audience.

Patty Lee Berlingieri, president of the Community Food Council, expressed her appreciation to the people in attendance who contributed over $1,100 to help the work of the council.

Participating in the service were Pastor Judith Short of the Dix Hills United Methodist Church; Rector John A. Meyer of the St. Margaret's Episcopal Church of Plainview and Pastor Koonae Lee of the Woodbury United Methodist Church.
