Express Delivery waited until the final game of the season to put forth its best effort, narrowly defeating Champion Motors 41-39 on Saturday, February 28. It took 11 periods to complete, but the game was worth watching every minute.
After 3 periods of trading buckets, Champion Motors began a stretch of unanswered baskets in the 4th and 5th periods. After halftime, faced with a consderable task, Express started coming back and finally tied the game at 37 at the end of nine periods, forcing overtime.
During the first overtime, both teams played great defense, allowing only one basket each, bringing the score to 39 each. During the second OT, emotions were running so high that it did not seem that anyone would score, but Stephanie Holtz got off a clean shot, hitting the game winner for Express at the very end of the period.
The strong defense of Express Delivery, particularly Jodi Shulman and Sari Frank, kept Champion Motors from blowing out the game. A well-rounded offense for Express was provided by Jessica Galasso (10 pts.), Lyndsey Wert (9 pts.) and Dale Cohen (7 pts.), while Lauren Berliner (4 pts.), Adrienne Demitriou (4 pts.), Stephanie Holtz (2 pts.), Rochelle Fershtman (2 pts.), Liz Meyer (2 pts.) and Samantha Strack (1 pt.) all had timely baskets.
Champion Motors' Erica Braverman (20 pts.), Kara Freedman (17 pts.) and Marisa Kabas (2 pts.) provided the scoring, but the entire team played extremely hard, and deserved congratulations for a fine and exciting game.
