I am seeking re-election to the Syosset School Board because I believe that my background as a community and parent advocate, as well as my professional background uniquely qualifies me for the position of trustee.

I have lived in Syosset for 11 years. I have one child in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary school. Since moving to Syosset, I have been involved in my synagogue, where I currently serve as youth chair, and where I served as a trustee for four years and as the synagogue's negotiator with caterers and clergy. I have held many positions in PTA and continue to attend PTA meetings when possible. I have also strongly supported community activities to protect the residential nature of our community. I am also currently active in a Rotary and its Gift of Life Campaign (children who are brought in from Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America to New York for heart operations). I strongly identify with the selfless and community-oriented activities of the Rotary.

As a trustee I have been involved in Long Island and NYS School Board Association activities and I have served on the Nassau BOCES Financial Advisory Board. As a trustee, I believe I contribute greatly on financial and personnel matters.

Please support Pat Maschio, Dr. Marc Herman and me for re-election to the Syosset School Board.

It is with great pleasure that I announce my candidacy for re-election to the Syosset School Board.

Through the continued efforts of our teachers, administrators and the support of parents and residents, our students are well-prepared for the future. On standardized tests, our students have scored exceptionally well and have met or exceeded the new tougher Regents standards well before they were mandated.

Our students continue to be recognized as National Merit Scholars and Westinghouse winners. Our graduating seniors, each year, receive record scholarships for their achievements.

I have worked hard to see that all of the students of Syosset receive the best possible education. Student shoulds be able to develop their talents and skills to their maximum ability. The social, behavioral and emotional needs of our students are complex and demanding. Continued growth is important to meet these needs.

I have continued to set the bar to new heights. In doing so, I have never wavered from my core values:

- allowing creativity and individuality in the education process

- providing a safe and secure environment for students and staff

- communicating candidly with the public

- stressing adult continuing education

- realizing that each student is unique and deserves the bet we can offer

- allowing learning programs that stimulate the intellectual, artistic and social development of students

- using the public revenues in a prudent and responsible manner, and

- working closely with the PTA and the community to promote quality education.

This community has always placed a premium on quality education. The issues in public education will become more complex as we enter the 21st century. Our greatest national resource is our children. Their education and future should be our highest priority.

I ask for your support and ask that you support Leonard Kirsch and Pat Maschio, so we may continue to serve our children and our community.

At this time I am seeking re-election to the Syosset Board of Education.

For the past 27 years I have been an active participant in school and community-related activities and, as a school board member for the last five years, I have committed myself to helping children in our community attain an equitable and distinguished education.

The decreases in state aid and unfunded mandates have presented a challenge to our school district. Difficult choices and decisions must be made based on both educational and economic priorities. It is important to strike a balance between the two, being sensitive to the interests of the taxpayers, while maintaining excellence of program. We must continue to look for creative solutions to maintain programs and seek new ways to address the ever-changing needs of our students.

We are facing an information and technological explosion in our global economy which demands that our students gain greater knowledge and higher level skills than ever before. We must strive for continued advancement of our educational system by adopting educational programs designed to equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet these demands.

The experience and knowledge I have gained over the years has greatly enhanced my qualifications for this position. It will enable me to evaluate existing and proposed policies and programs, and deal with future concerns and expectations while keeping the needs of our children foremost in mind.

I would welcome the opportunity to continue to serve our community and ask for your support. I also ask that you support my fellow board members Marc Herman and Lenny Kirsch who are seeking re-election.
